Byron Buxton Will Test Out Knee for Twins, Then Maybe Start a Rehab Assignment…?
Matt Blewett-USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Twins will try to continue their hot streak on Tuesday, after a Monday off to rest their rally sausage. Unfortunately, Byron Buxton will not be in the lineup, as he continues to work his way back from his latest knee injury.

Byron Buxton will test out knee for Minnesota Twins today

Buck does believe his knee is ready for game action again, though, because the Twins told beat reporters this afternoon that he will test out his knee today “in front of the team”. If all goes well, he will have what sounds like a brief rehab assignment, before jumping back into the lineup.

Buxton’s season has been a bit up and down, at the plate. But leading up to his injury, he had played in nearly every game of the Minnesota Twins’ season. Not only that, but according to Statcast’s new bat tracking software, his bat speed is still better than any other player on the team when he takes competitive swings.

No doubt, between his defense and presence at the plate, even when the results aren’t there offensively, Buck is a big positive when in the lineup. But just when we started to feel more confident in his knee holding up, it gave out.

Will he prove healthy enough to start whatever rehab assignment “some games” is? And if so, can he hold up for another 25 games without re-injury? Those questions are yet to be answered, though we’ll likely know more later in the day on what his immediate future looks like. Either way, he won’t be available vs the New York Yankees.
